Mixed media and acrylic paint on paper on canvas 3 x 20x29cm

(frameweb.com)Dario Moschetta says his practice results in the creation of “mixed media” works. Yet his technique is more complex than what “mixed media” might imply. Using a detailed photographic base printed on paper, he proceeds to dissolve the printed pigment by applying vinyl glue directly on the surface. He then tears away the first layer of paper to leave behind a spectre of an image, thereafter spraying the painting with water and scratching the surface with sandpaper and chisels to expose the pulp below. This process is repeated until he is satisfied with the result, and goes on to add colour to his work.
Moschetta is inspired by film posters and cinematic icons, including Pier Paolo Pasolini. While he is known mainly for his cityscapes, he has also done an outstanding series of portraits that resembles old, worn posters that have faded over time. Interested in the effect of time over both physical and mental images, Moschetta’s work is charmingly, masterfully uneven and nostalgic.
